Qualicum School District

Qualicum School District employee Brant Prunkl had the privilege of participating in Leadership Vancouver Island, and the experience has been nothing short of transformative. At the core of the program is a commitment to value-based leadership, which has significantly impacted how they approach both their personal and professional life.

The principles taught throughout the program have helped Brant gain clarity in understanding how to align his actions and decisions with his core values. Leadership Vancouver Island emphasizes the importance of leading with integrity and authenticity, encouraging participants to recognize how their values shape their leadership style. For Brant, this reinforced the belief that leadership isn’t solely about achieving goals or strategizing—it’s about consistently honoring what is truly important on a personal level.

Through the program, Brant has learned that effective leadership is rooted in serving others, but also in serving one’s own values. Empathy, transparency, and purpose are values that Brant holds dear, and Leadership Vancouver Island has provided the tools and support needed to incorporate these values into their leadership approach, both in everyday team interactions and in more challenging moments.

Perhaps one of the most significant lessons Brant has taken away is understanding and addressing the moral frustrations that often emerge in the workplace. It’s easy for leaders to feel disconnected from their values due to external pressures, corporate politics, or short-term goals. However, Leadership Vancouver Island has enabled Brant to identify these moments of frustration and understand their root cause—often an alignment issue between personal values and the demands placed upon him.

Through this experience, Brant now appreciates that leadership isn’t just about tackling external challenges, but also about protecting and nurturing one’s own moral compass. Leadership Vancouver Island has provided the insight to reconcile moments of moral conflict, reminding Brant that honoring personal values not only leads to more effective leadership but also a more ethical and fulfilling career.

For Brant, this program has been a valuable reminder that leadership is a continuous journey of growth, alignment, and service. We are incredibly grateful for the opportunity to be part of such a supportive and inspiring leadership program.
